Long Haired Weimaraner’s are not a common sight in North America. In fact there are very few of them in the US. That is not true in Germany where they originate. In the early development years of the Weimaraners there were two coats, long haired and short haired. The short haired Weim’s we see in the AKC show rings and few are hunted.

The long haired Weim’s are the best kept secret in Gemany, they are hunting dogs that are bred to hunt. The only difference listed in the Weimaraner Klub of Germany is the coat.

Sad to report that Dotje has made the rainbow bridge trip in September.  Great dog and will be missed!

I witnessed a nice male LHW in Maryland at a NAVHDA test where I was judging. After a long talk with the handler, I became very interested in the breed and imported Dotje in March of 2005. Dotje is a hard hunting LHW with a dense coat. She is a cold weather dog and loves the water. Dotje will break ice to make a retrieve. She has a natural backing instinct and a nice point.Dotje has been tested in NAVDHA's Natural Ability test and the German VJP test with nice passing scores. Dotje is a fantasic hunting partner.
